About Cajun Soul
Paying Tribute to the Cajun Heritage
Cajun Soul was created by a Cajun, James Benoit, who was raised on the swamp lands of Southeast Texas. Cajuns were originally from France and moved to the new world settling in an area in Canada called “Acadia”. These people were referred to as “The Acadians”. Eventually, the Acadians were forced out which is how the Benoit family ended up in Louisiana. Slowly, a new culture and language developed. As this happened, the pronunciation of “Acadian” became “Cajun”. These are now the people that live in West Louisiana and East Texas. James Benoit was the youngest out of 11 kids who were raised on what was usually a sinking houseboat on the bayous. On a typical day, James and his siblings would come home from school to Mom shooting ducks out the bedroom window for dinner. Even the alligators feared that ole bayou woman. Dad was the provider of the land; he was on a first name basis with the local game warden. We will leave it at that.
